A Comprehensive Transportation Plan is important because it:

• Helps establish a vision for transportation in Fuquay-Varina
• Identifies needs and deficiencies
• Recommends specific projects and strategies
• Creates an action plan for implementation.
• Provides information to secure project funding, coordinate with future development, and shape policy and program decisions

The 2040 CTP is has eight Guiding Principles that will help lead the direction of the plan:

• Culture & Environment: Preserve and Promote the Town's valued places and natural assets.
• Land Use & Transportation: Coordinate transportation investments with land use and development decisions.
• Neighborhood Character: Enhance the quality of life and preserve local character.
• Safety & Security: Promote a safe and secure transportation system by reducing crashes and improving emergency response.
• Economic Vitality: Support the local economy by making it easier to move people and freight around and through the Town.
• Multimodal Options: Provide a balanced transportation system that makes it easier to bike, walk, or take transit. 
• Network Mobility: Make it easier to connect within and through the Town for all modes of transportation.
• System Preservation: Extend the life of the transportation system by emphasizing maintenance and long-term viability.
