The Town of Fuquay-Varina proposes to construct an approximately 2,400 foot-long asphalt and boardwalk trail along the west side of Basal Creek, just north of the Alston Ridge Neighborhood. This greenway is intended to improve pedestrian connectivity to existing facilities in Fuquay-Varina and those nearby in the Town of Holly Springs. The Alston Ridge Greenway will begin at the existing Basal Creek Greenway terminus, located on the east side of NC 55 in the Alston Pond Subdivision, and extend north along Basal Creek where it will tie into the existing asphalt Sugg Connector Trail. Access to the proposed greenway will be available through the existing greenway connections via the tie-in locations.
Boardwalk segments are proposed along the greenway to reduce impacts to streams and wetlands. Additionally, an overlook boardwalk area is proposed mid-way along the proposed greenway to provide a scenic area for users to rest. Town Engineering staff are still determining what types of amenities to install at this overlook, such as benches, trash cans, or informational boards.
The Town is working to secure funding for construction. A map of the proposed greenway construction is included. The comment period closed on October 29, 2021. Please note that the map is a PRELIMINARY design. Your feedback will help shape the project.
