The Town of Fuquay-Varina is proposing to implement intersection improvements at North Judd Parkway and North Broad Street (NC 55) in Wake County. The proposed project would include widening NE Judd Parkway at the intersection with NC 55 to provide a second through lane in each direction, a second dedicated westbound right-turn lane to northbound NC 55, and a concrete median. Median openings are proposed to provide left-over access to Powhatan Drive and to the Broad Street Market plaza.
Additional improvements include installing a new concrete sidewalk along the northern side of NE Judd Parkway, and reconstructing the existing sidewalk on the southern side of NE Judd Parkway where widening is necessary.
The Town has secured approximately $1.5 million in federal funding for design and construction through the NC Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Locally Administered Projects Program. The total project cost is $1.9 million and the remaining $400,000 will be Town-funded. Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2022. A map of the proposed improvements overlaid on aerial imagery is included.
